Vasek Pospisil is a Canadian tennis player, ranked as high as number 25 in the world in singles, number 3 in doubles. In early 2019, he went through surgery, and did not play a match from late October of 2018 until Wimbledon, July 2019. Pospisil talked about injury, surgery and recovery in this exclusive interview with Tennis Acumen, in Knoxville, Tennessee, November 2019. Karl Corbett poses the questions.
Karl: Everyone gets hurt, playing this game, Vasek, and you are coming back from surgery. What’s that like for you, on a personal level?
Vasek: I've changed a lot in the last year, especially since the surgery and the hard work of coming back to the sport. I think I've just kind of changed my perspective on not only my passion for tennis, but on the sport itself. You know, you take things for granted and then suddenly, you get injured. You realize how much you love to do what you do. It gave me a new perspective on life in general. To be honest, I think it's helped me be a bit more relaxed on the court these last few months. I really think it was having that extra time, just to get busy with other things in life, going beyond that identity where you're just a tennis player. You know, that can kind of handcuff you a little bit, if you put too much pressure on yourself. So, I think, actually, that a break away from tennis was healthy in my in my case.
