In 2021, Tennis Acumen interviewed American J. J. Wolf at the Champaign Challenger tournament. Here is a part of that conversation:
Tennis Acumen: J. J., who do you enjoy spending time with on the tour?
J. J. Wolf: I always like being around some of the Ohio State guys , (Mikael) Torpegaard. I'm very close with (Aleks) Kovacevich, some of the Illinois guys that I grew up playing against. OK, Marcus Giron, , Mackey (Mackenzie McDonald) and Reilly Opelka. A lot of the Americans have been really nice. Veterans like (Sam ) Querrey and (John) Isner and Stevie (Johnson) have always been really nice to me. Not so much to hang out with them, but they’ll always say “Hi.” in the locker room.
Tennis Acumen: So is it different playing against a friend?
J. J. Wolf: Some people feel weird about it. I think it's fun. I say, be friends off the court. Once you get on the court, I just worry about myself, so I don't think about it too much.
Tennis Acumen: OK, tell me more about that.
J. J. Wolf: In tennis, you try to control what you can control. So thinking about who you're playing against doesn't really do much for you.
